Their latest release in titled T:Ktonik: I found this album really interesting and ended up listening to the whole album, and followed up with a trip to ProgArchives to find out more about the band!

Goblin Rebirth – The Safari Explores Italian Prog Again!

Goblin Rebirth – Rock Progressivo Italiano • Italy

It seems that lately I have been enjoying more and more bands that fall into the sub-genre of Rock Progressivo Italiano (See Armonite, Unreal City). The latest one is Goblin Rebirth. Their self-titled debut album has been in my rotation for a few days. It was even the soundtrack for a walk yesterday, back from the garage that was repairing my daughter’s car! It is a really good instrumental album.

Since the album was self-titled i thought Goblin Rebirth was a new band!! Wrong!! In reality they are what the name suggests, the rebirth of the band Goblin, whose roots go back to the mid-70s when  they collaboratied with Italian master of horror Dario Argento, scoring, a number of  Argento’s horror films such as ‘Profondo Rosso,’ ‘Zombi’ and ‘Suspiria.’ Goblin achieved immense success from this collaboration and achieved a legeneday status. The majority of their  music is heavy and moody with a Pink Floyd feel. The centerpiece of the band in the early years was the outstanding keyboard work of Claudio Simonett  Throughout the years in addition to the lastest reincarnation as Goblin Rebirth,,  the band has also been known as: Back to the Goblin, New Goblin, the Goblin Keys and Claudio Simonetti‘s Goblin!

Colin Edwin – Explorations of his Music!

Colin Edwin –  fretted and fretless bass guitar , double bass and guimbri. –Born July 2, 1970

Ihave explored the music of Colin Edwin, not through the band that he has been a member of since 1993 Porcupine Tree; but through his collaborations with Jon Durant and more recently with Armonite. So today July 2nd i thought it may be a good day to more extensively explore the man and his music.  What I discovered is that Colin Edwin, like many talented musicians has many different outlets for his musicianship! In addition to his work with Porcupine Tree, Edwin has released solo albums. collaborated many artists and been a member of several bands! Some basics from Wikipedia.

Armonite -The Sun is New Each Day

Armonite: Rock Progressivo Italiano • Italy  –  Rating ****

Over the last few days, the album The Sun is New Each Day from the band Armonite has been in my music rotation. It is an interesting instrumental progressive rock album. The band has a distinctive sound generated mostly by the sound of an electric violin. That violin is being played by one of the two founding members of Armonite, Jacopo Bigi. Bigi and composer Paolo Fosso founded Armonite in 1996 while they were still in school. The band released its first album Inuit in 1999. After which the band broke up.Jacopo pursued a career as a classical violinist and violin teacher, while Paolo started working in music administration. In 2015 they reunited and formed a new band, but used the old name.

Running with the Empirical Ghost of Lis er Stille

The Run….

So while Elizabeth conquered the Broad Street 10 miler yesterday, I conquered the RG Riverside half a ten miler on Saturday, running five miles for the first time this year!! I had set out to run a 4.2 mile course I call the Harper Loop. I have not run that course yet this year mainly because it has a long ascent up Pancoast Avenue and then another shorter ascent up Fairview to Harper. Followed by a descent and short ascent along Harper followed by a longer descent down Cranberry Lane.  I did well keeping a slower and steady pace knowing that the hills would be a challenge. The first three miles were 10:44, 11:06, and 10:54 beat you can guess where the hills were!! I slowed down on mile four because I hadn’t really run a four miler with hills and I was tired. But when I stabilized my breathing thanks to the rhythms of Lis er Stille, I didn’t feel too bad, so I thought “let’s see if I can go five”, knowing that Lizzie was doing ten on Sunday! At least I could do a half of that!!

Voyager: Cailyn’s voyage through our Solar System!

Cailyn Lloyd

Voyager – Cailyn (Lloyd) – Released January 2015

Several weeks ago, I took a trip through space courtesy of the music of John Serrie and his album Day Star. Over the last week I have traveled through our own solar system tracing the travels of the Voyager ship, via the music of Cailyn (Lloyd)and her latest release apply titled Voyager.

Cailyn is a guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, and composer from Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. She began her music career at an early age, starting with piano and quickly moving on to violin and bass. By her teens she was living in London, England and playing in blues and prog-rock bands Cailyn eventually returned to the states, still studying and playing guitar, bass and keyboards. Not satisfied with that she added drums to her repertoire. Oh, and she took some time off to raise a family!! Around 2004, Cailyn returned to music full-time, initially touring with the Alimony Blues Band as a guitarist and then with the power-rock band IX Lives playing guitar, bass and keyboards.

Riders of the Universe – Amen Road – Ride On!

Riders of the Universe : Netherlands

I must say that what first attracted me to Riders of the Universe new album was the cover. But it only took listening to a few minutes of the opening track “We AreRiders Pt 1 & 2” For me to know that I was going to like this album. I had it on in the background the other night as I was reading and when the title track “Amen Road” came on my ears perked up, and I thought I have to pay more attention to these guys! I did just that , yesterday, and again in morning, which only reinforced the fact that I really like this album!!
